What does the “Move Row” functionality do?

The “Move Row” functionality allows you to move tasks up and down in the task list, changing the way they are structured.

How do I move tasks within an existing task list?

To move a task up or down, click on the Task ID column for the task you are moving. The cursor turns into a four-way arrow. Click and drag the task to the location in the task list where you want the task listed.

How do I move a summary task?

To move a summary task, click on the Task ID column for the summary task you are moving. The cursor turns into a four-way arrow. Click and drag the summary task with all its subtasks to the location in the task list where you want the task listed.

When a row is moved, does the task retain its level?

Moving a task can change its outline level. A task retains its level in the outline only when you move the task to follow a task at the same level.

Comparatively, if you move a lower-level task to a section of tasks at a higher level — for example, move a third-level task to a section of second-level tasks — the moved task takes on the level of the task preceding it. And the converse is true when you move a higher-level task to follow a lower-level task.

What is Row?

A row is a horizontally series of cells in a chart, table or spreadsheet.

Step by step on how to move tasks within an existing task list:

1. Select the entire row corresponding to the task by clicking on the cell containing the task ID. The cursor turns into a four-way arrow.

2. Click and drag the task to the location in the task list where you want the task listed, indicated by a line cursor.

3. Drop the task to its new location.

Tips:

  • Move tasks before linking them.
  • Use Undo to move the task back to its original row if required.
